Old vines and traditional grape varieties

Grenache noir

A native of Aragon, where it has been cultivated since the Middle Ages, the Grenache grape variety developed in France following the phylloxera epidemic of the late nineteenth century. It is an old and typical variety in Provencal wines to which it brings the body, a note of red bronze and a wide variety of aromas.

At les Vallons de Fontfresque, grenache noir is an important part of the vines planted: in plots called the "Threshold", "Montolivet" and "Folie's, the latter having been named in tribute to the young ladies of Paris... It is an essential grape in our assemblies AOC appellation Coteaux Varois en Provence where it marries deliciously with the cinsault.
